The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival is a non-profit organization and uses the proceeds from the annual Festival to support music education among young people in the Valley. $13,000 in donations have been approved for 2010.
Grant of $1,200.00 presented to the Alvarez Elementary School by Anna Jenkins, Gene McKenzie and Don Lorenzo
The grant of $1,200.00 was presented to Alvarez Elementary School on Tuesday 03-02-10. This is the only known Drum Line, made up of 4th and 5th graders. They had arranged to have the entire enrollment of students at the presentation, and presented three pieces for the presenters. The students range from 4 years of age, thru the 5th grade. They already have replacements for the 5th graders who will be leaving the Drum Line. The Drum line students must maintain grade level to continue to participate. Their instructor is to be commended, as well as those who have supported the Drum Line.

Our dancers range from 9 years old to 21 years old.In winning at the Viva Aztlan 2010 as "Best of the Festival" that has given us the opportunity to return next year and present a (2 hour) Viva Aztlan 2011 SHOW CASE. The Rio Grande Music Festival presented a donation of $1000 to the Mercedes HS Mighty Tigers Band which will help fund an upcoming trip by the band to Washington, DC.
