2011 Rio Grande Valley Music Festival Grants
         The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival is a non-profit organization and uses the net proceeds from the annual festival to provide grants and/or training of Rio Grande Valley students and youth groups.
          $20,000 in grants have been approved for 2011

Weslaco High School Jazz Band

     On March 23,2011 Gene McKenzie, Trustee, presented $1000 to Paul Noel, Jazz Band Director.  left to right Gene McKenzie,Paul Noel. Also in the picture are the Weslaco High School Jazz Band Members.
Weslaco High School Choir

     On March 24,2011 Gene McKenzie, trustee, presented a check of $400 to Maria Avalos, Choir Director for the Weslaco High School Choir.  Pictured left to right, Gene McKenzie, Maria Avalos also pictured are the Weslaco High School Choir Members.
Alvarez Drum Line

     On March 24, 2011 Alvarez Drum Line was presented a check of $1000 from the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival.  Pictured is George Rogers,President.Also attending were Anna Jenkins, Treasurer, Gene McKenzie, Trustee, Don Lorezo, Trustee, Edy McKenzie, Secretary, Kathy Rogers, member, Randy Read, Director, Melba Fuentes and Socorro Espinoza.
Augusto Guerra Elementary School Music Dept

     On March 25, 2011  Augusto Guerra Elementary School Music Dept. was presented a check for $600 from the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival.  Those pictured left to right are Cynthia Perales, music teacher,Edy McKenzie, Secretary RGVMF, Gene McKenzie, Trustee RGVMF, Robert Perales, and Rebecca Sanchez, Principal.
Los Guitarritas! The Ynes B. Escobar Elementary Guitar Group
Los Guitarritas!  The Ynes B. Escobar Elementary Guitar group performed at the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival in Mercedes on Saturday, February 19, 2011.  The guitar group wowed the crowd with a variety of music in English and Spanish in addition to performing at the Festival, Los Guitarritas were the recipients of a $1,000 grant by the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival organization.  Thank you, RGV Music Festival, for the generous support of youth music program in the Rio Grande Valley. Mercedes Mighty Tigers Band
Rio Grande Valley Music Festival Trustee Eugene McKenzie and
Secretary Edy McKenzie present the $4,500 donation to Ricardo Garcia, Mercedes
City Manager, and Guy McKinney, Mercedes ISD Band Director. 
The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival  Music recently presented the Mercedes ISD
band programs with a donation of $4,500. It is part of the $20,000 raised by the
2011 Festival and will be used to purchase new instruments and music for the JFK
Intermediate, Junior High and High Schools.

Edcouch-Elsa Mariachi Band

Edcouch-Elsa's Mariachi Band was presented with a check of $1,000.00 from the Rio Grande Music Valley Festival on Jan. 11,2012. The check is part of the $20,000.00 from the 2011 Music Festival.  Representing the festival was George Rogers, President, Edy McKenzie, Secretary, Gene McKenzie, Trustee and Kathy Rogers, member.  The school plans on using their check towards the contest they are going to in San  Antonio.  The festival wants to wish them luck in San Antonio.
