Allen Maynes Kids:
Allen Maynes Kids are guitar students of Allen Maynes. They are from the school district of LaJoya.  The students play guitars and also sing.  They have a contest amongst themselves the day they perform at the festival.
They will perform Saturday in the morning. Check the scedule for the time.
You will be very impressed with these students.

Alvarez Drum line:
The Drum line will be performing at the festival, come see these fantastic kids & their drums.  They are directed by Melba Fuentes and Socorro Espinoza.

Betty Rydell:
Betty Rydell Show features country, gospel, pop, and oldies for churches, schools, fairs, and senior events. Betty sings, yodels, plays nine instruments and loves to entertain.

Bill and Suzy Kreitz:
Bill plays bass and Suzy plays rhythm guitar and is a vocalist. They will be singing and playing backup on stage 2 with the spare parts band and performing on other stages.

Buddy & Tina Wright:
Buddy & Tina Wright are a brother and sister band that performs with their parents. They are a traditional country, bluegrass, cowboy and gospel quartet with the best known twin fiddlers hailing from the state of Texas. This NEA award-winning group tours nationally and internationally. Watching this group perform encourages creativity and hope and provides positive role models for the young. website:

Bunny Sigrist:
Bunny Sigrist plays rhythm guitar and  does vocals.  She has performed in her own shows throughout the valley and has played backup for other shows.  She has been a jam host and plays backup for jams in the valley.  She will play backup on stage two in the mornings.

Chris Marshall:
Chris Marshall is a guitarist and vocalist, he is sponsored by Payne Motor Group.

Clarence Hayden:
Clarence Hayden, of Richmond MO, is a Nashville singer/songwriter and has several cds out as well as performs on the country music stages in Missouri. He appears on the RFD Show in Sandstone MN regularly. Clarence writes old country songs as well as gospel with old country sounds.

Country Shades:
Colleen Brezinski, keyboard, strumstick and vocals. Tony Brezinski rhythm guitar and vocals.Colleen and Tony are winter Texans. Tony has been a jam host for a number of years.  Neil Berg, bass, rhythm guitar, and vocals. The band has played at the 1015 Onion Festival.

Cactus Willie, Boxcar Bob and the Drifter, also called The Cowboy & Hobo :
This popular group performs a busy schedule throughout the Valley during the winter season. In the summer they appear at various Midwest venues, including Branson and their own Cowboy and Hobo Festival in Brainard, MN.The music is acoustical with vocal leads and harmonies. A combination of Country, Folk, Bluegrass & Lite Rock-'n-roll. Songs you will remember and a stage presence that is truly professional. Website:

Dan Adelmund:
Dan is from Illinois, he plays rhythm and bass guitars and is a vocalist.

Deanna Nelson:

Deanna Nelson is from Michigan and sings and performs in her own shows here in the valley.

Don Frizzell:
Don Frizzell is a vocalist and guitar player who began playing as a teenager, but didn't really develop his musical skills until he spent 15 years as a middle-aged, rural pastor, taking his voice and guitar not only into church sanctuaries but nursing and group homes, hospital rooms, and the homes of shut-ins as well.  Beside country gospel, the classic country he heard as a boy and country-rock and outlaw country he listened to as a young adult have shaped his repertoire.  In recent years besides doing some solo entertaining he has appeared at various festivals and spent two seasons with the dance band "Floyd and Frizzell".  
 
Don Lorenzo:
Don plays harmonica and also does vocals. He has entertained in many different venues and he has also played backup for other singers.

Donnie Young:
The "Singing Cherokee", Young is proud of his Native American roots and equally proud to be a part of Country music. He was born and raised in Missouri and Colorado and is presently a certified tribal member and also a council spokesman for the Cherokee Nation.Young is a natural musician who began his music while in the military. On his discharge from this he started playing music seriously and has won numerous awards, from equally numerous venues for his singing and his song writing, among these the Red Rider Show, Roy Rogers Country Music, Cannon Dam Opera of Perry, Missouri; Johnson Jubilee, Gene Autry Museum and Music Festival, South Texas Music Festival, Missouri River County Blue Grass and Gospel, Thespian Hall of Booneville, Missouri; and several others.

Duke Ellingson:
Duke, is a winter Texan. He sings and plays at various jams,he is an accomplished accordian and piano player.

Dulcimer Group:
The Dulcimer group is made up of players from different parts of the valley.

Ed Jones:
A rhythm guitarist and vocalist. He has played around the valley in jams. He has been a jam host. He is also the stage manager for tent 3 for the festival.

Edcouch-Elsa Mariachi: Edcouch-Elsa Mariachi Band will be making their performances at the 2012 festival. Watch the schedule as to time and stage.

Empty Pockets BG:
Empty Pockets String Band is a hot acoustic band featuring bluegrass music in the style of Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe. These four veteran musicians became acquainted by chance in 2006 at a jam session in south Texas. They have been playing music together ever since. The group features Bob Price playing the 5-string banjo and vocals, Lea Price on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Rick Dakon on mandolin and frailing banjo, and Gail Dakon on bass, fiddle, and vocals. Toe-tapping songs and instrumentals, sacred gospels, melodically pleasing vocal harmonies and clean comedy provide a very crowd-pleasing performance. Bob and Lea are originally from Kansas and now make their home in Mission, Texas. Rick and Gail are retired winter Texans from Smithville, Missouri.

Epard Folkloric:
Award winning Folkloric dancers ranging in ages 9 years old to 21 years old.
They are from Edinburg. You will enjoy their dancing and their lovely costumes.

Ervin Pickhinke:
"The Singing Farmer", and song writer lives in Sioux City Ia. and comes to the valley in the fall. He is also a past vocal contest winner. One of his songs, is "The John Deere Tractor Song.

Francis Hahn:
  Started his musical background at an early age by taking piano lessons and singing lessons at age 9.  After a 15 year hiatus, he started writing poetry and songs while serving in the U.S. Army.  He had several songs under contract with the "House of Cash" during the period from 1970-74. Francis has recently performed shows for Bob Everhart and the National Traditional County Music Asso. in Avoca,Missouri Valley,and Anita, Iowa.    Francis also managed two shows for the Nebraska Cornhusker Bluegrass Assoc. in Louisville, Neb.  and worked as stage manager and MC as well as performed as a singer songwriter in Wahoo, Neb.  Francis was inducted  into the National Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame in Sept. 2002.He has performed at several festivals in Kansas,Iowa,Minnesota,Nebraska, and Oklahoma  He also worked as a band member and singer in different bands in the Rio Grande Valley . Francis has produced and directed a Music Festival at Timber Ridge Ranch near Castana, Iowa.Francis is a member of the Oak Tree Opry and the Oak Tree Opry Road Show in Anita, Iowa.

From The Heartland BG:
They come from the Sooner State of Oklahoma.  The band started playing and touring in early 2004, and with a combination of original songs and bluegrass favorites with a little county, blues, and old time rock and roll.www.fromtheheartlandbluegrass.com


Gordon Hildreth
:
Gordon Hildreth is a Canadian singer, guitarist and performer of country music in its traditional form. He has been the host of several music shows and festivals.

 
Ian Furr:
Ian and his wife Dian like to entertain at jams and coffee houses.  They have an Irish Folk style of singing.  Ian plays the guitar and Dian plays an Irish drum.

I W Henson:
IW is a native Texan and long time resident of Palacios. He is known not only for his singing and playing abilities, but especially for his vast collection of hand decorated shirts. He has been with the RGVMF from the beginning and serves as the Festival Vice President. He is also stage manager for stage 1.

Jacob Austin Band:
Jacob Austin is a twenty one year old young man that has been singing more than half his life. David, (his father) (who was in a band back in the "old days). He plays the twelve and six string rhythm guitars. Mama Liz, plays the autoharp, adding another dash of bluegrass flavor to the band's already classic sound. They love to play traditional country, ballads, and spiritual/traditional gospel music, as well as some of their original material. They also play a few of the more modern country songs.

Jack Biernacki:Jack is a guitarist and vocalist from Canada.  He has been a jam host here in the Valley. You will enjoy his bluegrass songs..

Janie Preston:
Janie Preston plays guitar and sings at various music festivals and is jam host at McAllen Mobile Park in McAllen.

Jim Brommel & Don Sanders:
Jim is from Iowa and he has a great baritone voice. He also sings in various jams.  Don plays guitar and does vocals.

Jim King Band:A group of very talented professional musicians and singers.
When you hear them, you may see that this band not only plays great
but they also have more fun than any other group of musicians you
may have heard.

They provide the best entertainment available and give  listeners a
varied range of music styles, specializing in Texas Swing (Bob Wills
style) and classic country as well as many newer hits. They  also play
their own unique versions of standards from the Big Band Era of the
30’s and 40’s as well as rock 'n roll styles.



Jim Staton:
Jim has been performing a variety of music in many different settings since he was six years old. Some of the better known establishments include the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Mayflower Hotel in Cheyenne Wyoming, and many others in twenty six states, plus six overseas tours to Goose Bay Labrador, Thule and Sondres Strom, Greenland for the U.S. Air Force. Jim has worked with such artist as Bob Wills, Tag Lambert, Wanda Jackson, Roy Clark, Little Jimmy Dickens, Billy Crash Craddock, and Sammie Smith. Since 1989 Jim has lived in Winfield, Ks. with his wife Beth, works for the Kansas Veterans Home and plays music as a single act over most of Kansas and Oklahoma and now in Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

Joe Weisgerber:
Joe is an Irish vocalist.

 


John Pedersen:
John Pedersen, better know as Big John Pedersen is a farmer and singer from Northern Iowa. He has performed here in the valley and at the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival. His wife, Connie accompanies him on stage. Bill and Suzy Kreitz will also appear with them.

John Varone:
A singer and rhythm guitar player from Minnesota. He has also helped with the stages and is a jam host at Trails End Park in Weslaco.

JUDY MOORE:
Judy is a solo singer as well as a duet singer.  She and Ken Hill sing duets together.  Judy is from
Rockton, Illinois.  When she is in Illinois she sings at the nursing homes and other places where they enjoy listening to her music.  Judy is also one of Ken Hill's volunteers to help run his stage 4 at the festival.

 Lois Oleson:
Lois is a winter Texan from Iowa, she plays rhythm guitar. She also is a vocalist and yodels.  She is part of the Iowa Kountry Opry that does shows here in the valley at various parks.

Lonnie Joe Howell:
Lonnie Joe plays and teaches harmonica. He will have a vendor booth at the festival from his business. He will have various instruments,books and supplies in his booth. He will also have workshops, and he will also perform on different stages.

Louie Long:
Louie Long from St. Joseph, Mo. He plays rhythm guitar and sings. He has performed in his own shows here in the valley.

Lucinda Monger:
Lucinda, a familiar face around the valley, who has been singing here at jams and businesses for quite some time. She has been performing in shows with Rick Montanna.

Margie Scobee Katzmann:
Margie is a winter Texan from Iowa. She performs up in Iowa at various functions and she performs in jams here in the valley. She also performs in shows here in the valley.

The Punches Family
:
We are sorry that the Punches will not be performing at the festival this year as there has been a conflict in their schedule.

 

Terry Smith:
Nashville singer/songwriter, Terry S. Smith, who is famous for Johnny Cash's recording of "Far Side Banks of Jordan".  "A songwriter with a different touch" is a superior performer whose music has been recorded by Johnny and June Carter Cash, Roy Acuff, The Oak Ridge Boys, Kitty Wells, Chris Le Doux, The Statler Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, Patty Loveless and others.  website:

Tommy Helms:
Tommy Helms, a good entertainer that looks and sounds like Burl Ives. He does tributes to Burl Ives but that is not all he does.  He like to mix up his shows with a little of Dean Martin. www.tommyhelms.com.


Valley Grande Adventist Academy
(Wind Ensemble & Marimba Band):
Valley Grande Academy Wind Ensemble Marimba band has performed at several Rio Grande Music Festivals. They are well received when they perform at the festival.

Walter Plant:
 Walter Plant was born in 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised in the coastal bend area. Born blind, Walter was immersed in the Gospels of our Lord. He has a spectacular voice and blends four keyboards into his background music.  He sings songs he wrote and other song writers songs.  He is very entertaining.


Weslaco HS Jazz & WHS Show Choir:
The Weslaco HS Jazz Band is a competing band that prepare pieces of music and plays them before judges.  They also play at school functions. Also the Weslaco HS Show Choir will be appearing, both are under the direction of Paul Noel, and were at the festival last year and will be back again this year.

Wynnejammers:
Dick and Wilma Wynne from Nebraska will be performing at the festival with their band. They are also managers for the acoustic jamming tent.















 
 














 

 


New Performers

The Coin Collections:
Andy is originally from Independence, Mo and worked as a full-time
entertainer there for many years. He also owned Andy's Music Store
in Kansas City. Being seasoned entertainer and entrepreneur led him to
opening shows for Kathy Mattea, K.D. Lang and Keith Witley. He eventually moved to Nashville where he focused on touring and recording.
This led to a guest appearance on the Hee Haw television show. In 1990 he came to Branson and started the Frontier Show at the 76 Music Hall. Andy the original pioneer of what has now become Hot Winter Fun promoting year round entertainment in Branson. Brenda grew up on a farm and ranch outside of Dickinson, ND. The badlands setting and a musical family background were the perfect combination to inspire true county music. She started singing at and early age.which led to many talents competition and second runner up in the Miss Dickinson Pageant in 1979. Brenda toured with many bands and eventually started her own band "Quarter Moon". The road was a great"training camp" in her career. In 1989 she moved to Branson. She sang in numerous Branson shows and venues, including The Vance Greek Show, The Eddie CashShow, The Buck Trent Show, Warren Stokes Country Review(Eureka Springs, Ar), and The Brumley Show. Her highlight was getting to work with Charley Pride as a feature and backup singer for 10 years at the Charley Pride Theater. Together Andy and Brenda have entertained alongside each other for 12 years

Dale and Gayle:
Dale and Gayle Eisenhauer are a husband & wife team retired from school teaching that took to the road in June 2010. They have traveled through 25 states and played in campgrounds, cafes,, outdoor events,and where-ever they could share their music.  They are from Oklahoma and winter in Leisure World in Weslaco. While in Oklahoma they play almost every weekend at stagecoach BBQ. Dale produces and plays in a show called Poncan Opry (poncanopry.com). Here in the valley they have played at different parks for dances and inpark events. Their website is: www.daleeisenhauer.com

Dennis Perry:  Playing & Singing since 1965.  His Band "Western Tones" in Iowa for 30 years. Singer/Song Writer, Hall of Fame.  Now he is a single performer.

The Farnum Family:
Norm and Trish Farnum along with their children; Daniel, Benjamin, Hannah and Nathaniel, perform a blend of Bluegrass,Gospel,Irish & Old Time Western music. Can contact them by: norm@farnumfamily.org

Herb Caudel:
Herb winters at Citrus Valley where he is the jam host. He plays bass guitar and does vocals

LA Formula:
La Formula is a group of musical students from up around the Laredo area.  This is their first time here, I am sure you will be pleased with their performance.

Mert Van Houten:
Mert is a guitarist and vocalist.  He also has been in bands in Iowa.

Prowell Family Band:
 The Prowell family band is Scott (dad) and Cynthia (mom), with daughters Sadie (13) and Emma (11). They started out from Lenexa, Kansas, in 2007 and have traveled around the country in their motorhome, doing volunteer work at churches and camps, and frequently playing music specials at local churches. In January of 2010, they officially started their family band. Now their primary focus is to play concerts at churches, retirement centers, RV parks, and festivals. They feel that this is their call – their motto is Music is our Mission! Their style is acoustic Gospel.  For certain venues they incorporate more traditional bluegrass, familiar cowboy tunes, and sometimes a visit from Sister Mary Bernadette with her splash of humor.

Precious Jade:
Precious Jade was born in Singapore and moved to the U.S. in 1990
At age 18, she won two National Talent contests.  As a result, she was awarded a recording contract with EMI Records and was later voted one of the 10 best songwriters in the country with an original song recorded with WEA Records.  Precious Jade wrote the words to Singapore's National song, "Voices From The Heart".
Precious Jade has also composed many original songs, that include love songs, Gospel,Country, Reggae and Christmas.


Ralph Kuster:
From Canada, Ralph Kuster has been performing his own show in Branson, Missouri since 2008. Kuster sings Sinatra, classic country, Elvis, soft rock, Neil Diamond, broadway and Gospel music

Raymond Nantel:
Raymond is from Canada and winters here in the valley.  He will be accompaning George Rogers with his guitar.

Rayne Magill and Ernie Ruth:
Rayne is from around the Council Bluffs, Iowa area. She is a vocalist as well as a guitar player. Ernie Ruth will be performing with her.

Terry Toews:
Terry is from Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada and winters here in the valley at Ranchero Village, Weslaco.  Terry plays guitar and is a vocalist. Besides performing at the festival she will be one of the volunteers that will help Ken Hill on stage 4.
